What Is an Energy Block? Do I have one?

But what on earth is an energy block?
Understanding Energy Blocks (In Plain English)
At its core, an energy block is a disruption in your body’s natural energy flow.
You don’t have to be a meditation master or energy healer to understand this. We’re all made of energy, this is a scientific fact. Our thoughts, emotions, and physical body are constantly interacting in ways we often can’t see… but can definitely feel.
When we go through stressful or painful experiences, especially those we suppress, avoid, or don’t know how to process, those emotions don’t just disappear. They get stored. They linger. And over time, they can build up like energetic “clogs” in the system.
That’s an energy block.
What Causes Energy Blocks?
Here are just a few common ways energy blocks can form:
Suppressing your emotions: Holding in anger, sadness, or grief instead of expressing or processing them
Ignoring your needs: Always putting yourself last, saying yes when you mean no, or living in “people-pleaser” mode
Absorbing other people’s energy: If you’re sensitive or empathic, you might carry other people’s emotions without realising it
Over-identifying with labels: “I’m just anxious.” “I’ve always been bad with money.” These become energetic identities that keep you stuck
Living out of alignment with your truth: Hiding who you are, staying in relationships or jobs that drain you, or following someone else’s version of success
How Do Energy Blocks Show Up?
They often don’t show up where you expect. You might notice:
Feeling emotionally heavy, flat, or foggy
Constant overthinking or emotional reactivity
Physical symptoms like fatigue, tension, or gut issues
Feeling stuck in repeating patterns or habits
Struggling to connect with your joy, purpose, or intuition
Most people try to “fix” these things by pushing harder, setting more goals, or blaming themselves. But energy blocks aren’t something you can outthink or hustle your way through, they need to be felt, acknowledged, and released.
The Good News? You Can Clear Them!
You don’t have to stay stuck. Energy healing, somatic awareness, inner work, and even simple practices like journaling and breathwork can start to shift blocked energy and restore your natural flow.
