The One-Minute Reset

A simple pause to clear your mind and calm your nervous system.

Even the most productive days can leave your mind feeling scattered.

The One-Minute Reset is your reminder that you don’t have to power through.
You can pause, breathe, and begin again. In just sixty seconds, this practice helps you disconnect from the energy of your last task, reset your nervous system, and prepare for what’s next with calm clarity.

We spend our days moving from one task or meeting to the next , often without stopping to breathe or mentally shift gears. Even when a meeting ends, our mind is usually still replaying what was said, analysing outcomes, or worrying about what’s next. Over time, this creates mental clutter and keeps our nervous system in a constant state of alert.

The One-Minute Reset gives you permission to pause.
It’s a simple breathing practice designed to break the momentum of your last task, reset your nervous system, and create clarity for what comes next. Think of it as a full stop between sentences, a way to end one thought cycle before beginning another.

This reset uses a short, controlled breathing technique based on the scientifically proven box breathing method. When we slow our breath and hold it in an even rhythm, we activate the parasympathetic nervous system, the body’s built-in calm switch.

In less than a minute, this helps to:

  • lower stress and steady your heartbeat

  • clear lingering thoughts from the last meeting or task

  • restore focus and prepare your mind for the next thing

  • energetically disconnect from what you’ve just completed, so you don’t carry it into your next activity

It’s short enough to fit between meetings, emails, or conversations and effective enough to make you feel instantly more centred.

What if, instead of rushing from one thing to another, you took just one minute to breathe?
You’d approach each task with fresh energy and a calm, clear mind.
You’d stop dragging the emotional or mental energy of the last thing into the next.
You’d start to feel more focused, more composed, and less reactive, even on the busiest days.

One mindful minute can change the tone of your entire day.

How to Do The One-Minute Reset

You can do this anywhere; at your desk, in the car, before a meeting, or even between emails.

  1. Stop what you’re doing.
Sit comfortably and rest your hands on your lap. Let your shoulders drop.

  2. Inhale slowly for a count of 4.

  3. Hold your breath gently for a count of 4.

  4. Exhale slowly for a count of 4.

  5. Hold again for a count of 4.

Repeat this pattern for 3 to 5 cycles, about one minute in total.

As you breathe, imagine placing a full stop at the end of your previous task/meeting.
Feel yourself letting go of the energy, conversation, or emotion from what came before.
With each new inhale, imagine breathing in clarity and presence.

When you finish, take a moment to notice how you feel, clearer, calmer, and re-centred, ready to move into the next zone of thought or activity with focus and ease.
